Batgirl & Robin: ‘A Matter of Family’ details

The Batgirl DLC (A matter of Family) for Arkham Knight is going to be awesome.

We have Batgirl and Robin teaming up to save Commissioner Gordon from Joker and Harley Quinn. Yes, it does include a dual-play fight with two heroes vs the two villains.

The new area that we explore is a theme park set atop an oil rig – certainly an interesting location!

Batgirl’s combat will be reminiscent of Batman’s freeflow fighting style, but will also utilise Barbara’s computer hacking skills for takedowns.

The $6.99 Story DLC pack is obviously set before the events of Arkham Asylum, as Barbara was seen as Oracle in the first game. This throws up the question of which Robin we’ll be seeing. Dick Grayson, Jason Todd or Tim Drake? None of them can really be ruled out until the 14th of July (21st July for non-Season Pass holders), as we don’t yet know exactly how the timeline of the Robins falls in the Arkhamverse.

“We wanted to recreate the feeling of being trapped in a bizarre and unique open environment playing a game of cat and mouse with the Joker,” says design producer Justin Vazquez.

“Hacking is really what separates her from the other characters. It’s a gameplay mechanic with which the player can create situations for Batgirl to really shine,” Vazquez says. “Our intention was that Batgirl should be less powerful than Batman, but that Batgirl plus hacking could give her opportunities do things that not even Batman can pull off.”

“Seeing these four iconic characters together at the same time will be a real thrill,” Vazquez says. And for the first time in the Arkham series, Harley will be sporting her trademark black and red ensemble from Batman: The Animated Series.

“[It’s] a love letter to the original game that started this incredible franchise,” Vazquez says.
