To everyone’s surprise, last week it was reported that The Joker would be getting his own origin movie. The film would feature a different actor than the main DCEU films, and would be produced by Todd Philips and Martin Scorsese. Philips would also direct and co-write the film.
Now, A few tidbits about the standalone film may have been dropped on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. Joe Rogan sat down with MMA fighter and actor Brendan Schaub, who is friends with Todd Philips’ agent, Todd Feldman.
Schaub went on to say:
“It’s dark. It’s like a dark Joker. As a kid, he had a permanent smile and everyone made fun of him. It’s like on the streets of Brooklyn. It’s super dark and real.”
Joker part starts around 130 mark.
First off, we should take this with a grain of salt. Not just because of the source, but you’d have to imagine the movie is in such early development that not much is set in stone yet.
Admittedly, a Joker origin story that features the character getting bullied into a life of crime doesn’t sound the least bit appealing. But the talent behind the film has earned some trust from me and I am interested to see what they do with the clown prince of crime.
