According to THR, Brenton Thwaites has been cast as Dick Grayson in the upcoming Titans show that is due out in 2018. The show will be available only on the yet to be named DC Comics streaming service. A service that will also be the home to Young Justice season 3.
The report includes a sort of synopsis:
“Titans is a live-action drama series that follows a group of young soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. The story revolves around Dick Grayson, who emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire (Anna Diop), Raven (Teagan Croft) and more. Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns and Sarah Schechter will exec produce.”
Surprisingly, at no point does the report mention Dick Grayson’s Nightwing persona. When the show was originally announced Nightwing was named as the Titans leader, but now they refer to him as Robin or The Boy Wonder. Perhaps this was a change to alleviate any confusion with the upcoming Nightwing movie. One good thing is that Geoff Johns does mention that Grayson is Batman’s former protégé, which means the Dark Knight exists in this universe! Though I won’t hold my breath for a cameo.
Not having seen anything Thwaites is in I can’t speak upon his acting, but he definitely looks the part. Some Grayson fans may be waiting for pictures from different angles to judge if he can live up to the part. But I’m excited for the show, just not excited to pay for another steaming service.
